Shane Connery Volk is best known as the lead singer and songwriter for Canadian rock band One Bad Son (OBS). Over the last 18 years, his commanding stage presence and soaring vocal range have captivated fans, and cemented Volk’s status as an elite rock ‘n’ roll frontman. OBS has toured with Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and Shinedown, among many others, and landed a coveted spot on the only Canadian stop of the 2019 Rolling Stones tour. Along with years of successful touring, the band has scored six top 10 hits on Canadian rock radio, with its single “Raging Bull” holding the #1 spot for four weeks.

Volk’s love of loud rock ‘n’ roll is undeniable, but there has always been another side. Volk says, “As much as I love Led Zeppelin and Soundgarden, I also love Johnny Cash and Tom Waits.” That other side has been heard on the OBS track “The Outlaw Josey Wales,” which Volk has stated was originally intended for a solo project. A project which has now come to life in his first solo release—the moody, acoustic-driven single, “Shiver”. “I’m always writing songs; they just flow out of me. I’ve written a lot of songs that weren’t the right fit for One Bad Son, and I’m excited to finally share them beyond jamming in my living room.” About the lyrics to “Shiver”, Volk says, “it’s a song about reconnecting to music and my creativity as a whole. I hope the lyrics connect with anyone who has had a dream and maybe lost sight of what made it so special to them in the first place.”

In embracing the full spectrum of his art, Volk has also embarked on a career as a professional comic book artist. His first series is the medieval noir Nottingham with Florida publisher Mad Cave Studios. The five-issue series has become a surprise hit, shattering all of the company’s previous sales records, with each book receiving multiple printings. “You never expect to get such a huge hit your first time out! I am truly honoured and grateful to the Mad Cave team and to the fans.” Volk says that the success of Nottingham has brought him one step closer to a lifelong aspiration, “I’ve wanted to draw comics my whole life, and I will always love making music. To be able to do both is a dream come true. All I really want is more art all the time!”
